Officials from the American Speed Association (ASA) Midwest Tour announced today Speed51.com, the leading short track news and information website, would be the Official News Site for the Swiss Colony Howie Lettow Memorial 150 presented by raceteamgear.com, held Tuesday, June 12th at the famed Milwaukee Mile in Wisconsin.

Speed51.com will provide information on the event leading up to raceday and then be the only source for live Trackside Now and in-depth coverage from the Super Late Model event honoring the midwestern short track scene’s most innovative and legendary crew chief, the late Howie Lettow.  NASCAR drivers, many of whom drove under the tutelage of Lettow through the years, plus the ASA Midwest Tour regulars and short track stars from around the country will converge on the Milwaukee Mile for the historic facility’s first stock car event since 2010.

“The awareness of our racers, our fans and our sponsors and the series is elevated when Speed51.com is involved because there are so many people who pay attention to it, all the way to the NASCAR level,” said Stephen Einhaus, Vice President of the ASA Midwest Tour.  “Over the past couple of years, we’ve been trying to do more and more with Speed51.com.  We know that 2012 is going to be a banner year for us where we work with Speed51.com on numerous events, but really focus on the Milwaukee Mile.

“Everybody goes to Speed51.com to see what’s going on.  It’s just a common occurrence in the short track world.  So to put our drivers’ names and our series on there and everything that goes along with it is a huge thing for us.”

51’s unique in-depth coverage of the Swiss Colony Howie Lettow Memorial 150 presented by raceteamgear.com will bring the action to life and create a lot of exposure for all involved.

“For Speed51.com to be part of something like this in honoring a true hero of our sport, Howie Lettow, is really humbling.  Howie was one of the best in the business and just a true good guy,” said Bob Dillner, owner of Speed51.com and NASCAR TV commentator on SPEED.  “There are some great announcements to come about this race as it’s already a big conversation in the NASCAR world.  With Speed51.com, we plan to bring an increased amount of exposure for the race, its marketing partners, the racers and certainly all the teams.”

The Swiss Colony Howie Lettow Memorial 150 presented by raceteamgear.com is the culmination of two years of hard work by ASAMT officials and the cooperation of many NASCAR drivers such as Jimmie Johnson, David Stremme, Ted Musgrave and Tony Raines, who have all been contacted about the event and wish to help honor the short track legend.

“We wanted to put together a special event to honor Howie and we’ve worked with guys like Jimmie Johnson, who drove for Howie years ago, on it.  Our focus is to make it a charity event.  Howie was someone who cared so much about young drivers and he wanted to help everyone.  It didn’t matter who it was.

“We want to give this event a major charity theme.  We’ve teamed up with the MACC Fund, which supports the research for cancer and blood disorders in children.  It’s a very popular charity in this area.  The idea is to bring in as many, if not all, of the drivers that raced for Howie over the years if we can.  All of them have said they want to support the event.  They are all interested in coming back to celebrate and honor Howie, while also raise a significant amount of money through this event.”

More details and special announcements about the Swiss Colony Howie Lettow Memorial 150 presented by raceteamgear.com will be made soon.  For more information on the event and the ASA Midwest Tour, visit www.asamidwesttour.com.
